DOL CBM guide (English)

DOL CBM is a container and pallet loading calculator for export, import and logistics work. Enter the length, width, height and quantity of your boxes to get the number of containers or pallets you need, space utilization, total volume (CBM), weight and center of gravity, plus a 3D view of the loading order. No sign-up is needed.

How to use

  1. Choose a container or a pallet at the top. Use "Custom" for a size that is not listed.
  2. Enter the length, width, height and quantity of each box in mm, cm or inches. Leave the quantity empty to fit as many as possible.
  3. Optionally set box weight, allow tipping, do not stack on top, and maximum layers in the details.
  4. The result appears instantly: a 3D view, units needed, space utilization, CBM, weight and center of gravity.
  5. Check the loading order, container comparison and pallet patterns on the Result tab, then save or share the plan.

Features

  • Container loading — 20ft, 40ft, 40ft HC and 45ft HC containers or a custom size. Mix several box types; leave the quantity empty to fit as many as possible. Set box weight, allow tipping, don't stack on top, maximum layers and a gap between boxes.
  • Pallet loading — T11 (1100×1100), T12 (1200×1000), EUR (1200×800), US (1219×1016) or a custom pallet with maximum height, maximum weight and overhang. Single-item pallets are built first and the remaining boxes go onto mixed pallets.
  • Pallet stacking patterns — Single-item pallets are stacked with interlocking patterns (block, row, split row, pinwheel, hybrid pinwheel, brick) with odd/even layer diagrams. Pick a pattern yourself and compare it in 3D.
  • Results and loading order — Containers or pallets needed, space utilization, volume (CBM), weight, center of gravity and used length, a comparison of the same cargo in other containers, and a step-by-step loading order.
  • 3D view — Play back the loading process and switch between 3D, door, top and side views. Walls facing the camera hide automatically; tap a box to see its details.
  • Pallets into containers — From a pallet result, "Load these pallets into a container" calculates the container load with the palletized cargo.
  • Save and share — Sign in with Google to save plans and share them with a link or QR code. Recipients see the 3D result without signing in.
  • Community board — Share loading tips and questions, and attach your load plan to a post so readers can open it in 3D.

Pallet stacking patterns

For a pallet with one box type, the calculator finds the layer layout that fits the most boxes and turns or flips the next layer so the seams interlock, which keeps the load stable.

  • Block — All boxes face the same way and every layer is identical (column stack). Strong under top load but can shift sideways, so secure it with wrap or straps.
  • Row — Rows facing the same way, with the next layer turned or flipped so the seams interlock.
  • Split row — A layer that mixes lengthwise and crosswise rows to reduce empty space.
  • Pinwheel — Four groups of boxes wrap around the center like a pinwheel; the center may stay empty.
  • Hybrid pinwheel — A pinwheel layout with the center filled as well.
  • Brick — Single rows of boxes interlock like bricks in a wall.

FAQ

What is CBM?

CBM (cubic meter) is the unit of cargo volume: length × width × height in meters. One 600×400×300 mm box is 0.6 × 0.4 × 0.3 = 0.072 CBM. DOL CBM calculates the total CBM together with the number of containers or pallets needed.

How many boxes fit in a 20ft container?

It depends on the box size. For example, up to 364 boxes of 600×400×300 mm fit in a 20ft container (inside 5898×2352×2393 mm), and up to 1,566 boxes of 450×350×280 mm fit in a 40ft HC. Enter your box size to calculate it instantly.

Can I mix different box types?

Yes. Add several box types and set quantity, weight, allow tipping, don't stack on top and maximum layers for each. With weights entered, heavier boxes go to the bottom.

What if I do not know the quantity?

Leave the quantity empty and the calculator shows how many fit when the container or pallet is filled to the maximum.

How accurate are the results?

They are estimates based on the dimensions you enter. Every box is fully supported from below in a layout people can follow, and the same input always gives the same result. Packaging tolerance, deformation, securing material and carrier rules can make the real load differ, so always check on site.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is free and the calculator works without signing in. Only saving plans and creating share links need a Google sign-in; there is no separate sign-up.

Can I send a result to someone else?

After saving, create a share link or QR code. Recipients see the 3D result without signing in and can copy it to their own plans. You can stop sharing at any time.

Can I load palletized cargo into a container?

Yes. In a pallet result, "Load these pallets into a container" calculates the container load with the pallets as cargo and shows the real pallets and boxes in 3D.
